Artist Residency

MISSION STATEMENT

To provide emerging and established artists a serene environment for creative exploration that is inspired by living in nature and is reflected in the art practice. Our goal is to support committed artists whose work corresponds with nature and is connected to place.

Before the sculptor J.B. Blunk died in 2002 he asked that his home and studio continue to be filled with life and creativity. In the spirit of the artist himself and his request the J.B. Blunk Residency has been established to provide a sanctuary for creative growth, exploration and production.

Set in the midst of the Bishop Pine Nature Preserve in Inverness, California the J.B. Blunk Residency offers a home, studio and outdoor clearings for work. The home and studio, built by J.B. Blunk in 1959, with salvaged materials, suggest a certain lifestyle that is independent, sustainable and closely connected to the landscape. Because of J.B.’s profound connection to the surrounding environment the hope is that the residency program will foster work inspired by the site.

The J.B. Blunk Residency (here after called Residency) is a program of the Lucid Art Foundation, a private non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Lucid Art’s vision is to support artists who are committed to living in harmony with nature and have dedicated their lives to creating works of art that are in deeper relation to the self and nature. The Residency invites emerging and established artists to apply whose works falls within the following categories:

  • Painting
  • Drawing
  • Photography
  • Installation
  • Creative Writing
  • Multimedia
  • Mixed media
  • Video
  • Artist Books
  • Sculpture
  • Woodwork
  • Music

Specifically, the Residency encourages artists to apply who are interested in pursuing creative endeavors that relate to, or are informed by, their surrounding environment. The Residency program is interested in work that is inspired by the mystery of artistic process, involves material exploration and is concerned with sustainability.
